In partnership with Toronto Ride, the West Neighbourhood House Transportation program offers door-to-door, individualized and affordable transportation services for older adults.

Please note, our service has begun to return to normal following the pandemic, however, drivers continue to take extra precautions to keep clients safe.

Essential Information

Who is eligible:

Transportation is available for older adults aged 55 or older, or any adults with disabilities who:

  • Reside in the West NH-OAC service area
  • Cannot access public transportation
  • Do not qualify for TTC Wheel-Trans services
  • Are not able to afford private transport
  • Are not able to enter/exit our vehicles with limited assistance

We regret that this service is not available to those who require lifting and cannot transfer independently from a wheelchair.

Where can you go:

Our transportation services are available from Bloor Street in the north to Lake Ontario in the south, Roncesvalles Avenue in the west to Yonge Street in the east. 

Through this program, you may receive transportation to:

  • Medical appointments
  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Grocery shopping
  • West Neighbourhood House Programs
  • Visit a friend/social activities

When:

Rides are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Note: We are closed statutory holidays except for Christmas Day.

Cost:

We strive to make our Transportation services as affordable as possible. Please see the costs below (tax is included):

  • One-way ride to Adult Day Services: $3.70
  • Group rides: $3.50
  • Grocery shopping (round trip): $6.85
  • Less than 5km: $6.50
  • 5km to 10km: $10.40
  • 10km to 15km: $15.10
  • 15km to 20km: $18.50
  • 20km to 25km: $22.65
  • Over 25km (plus $1.05/km each way): $25.50

How to register:

To register for a ride, call Seniors Intake at 416-532-7586 ext. 146. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

After business hours, please leave a voicemail message and your call will be returned on the next business day.  Requests must be made one week in advance.  Your ride will be confirmed the morning prior to your appointment.

When you call, please provide us with:

  • Your name & phone number
  • The date, time, name, address, and phone number information regarding your appointment

Please tell us if you:

  • Need assistance entering or exiting a vehicle
  • Need an escort
  • Have a medical condition, e.g. epilepsy

What is Toronto Ride?
West Neighbourhood House – Older Adult Centre (OAC) Transportation Program is a member of the Toronto Ride, a network whose objective is to provide an efficient, coordinated, and easily accessible non-emergency community transportation referral service by which seniors and persons with disabilities can access health care system services and certain social/recreational functions, such as shopping and community programs.

Why is there a need for the Transportation Program?
Transportation is a critical factor for independent community living. In partnership with Toronto Ride, the West Neighbourhood House Transportation program offers independence, assistance, choice and participation in the regular activities of daily living, essential to physical and emotional well being.

What if I need to cancel my ride?
If you need to cancel your ride, you must provide West Neighbourhood House with 24 hours notice.  If not, we regret that you will be charged for the cost of the ride.
