West Neighbourhood House offers a variety of activities designed to promote growth in a safe and welcoming environment that embraces the diversity of our community. The Social Media Club provides eager participants with the opportunity to get gain greater social media skills and socialize with others. This is a wonderful opportunity for participants to get to know each other and create and maintain their social networks. This role is a great fit for patient, friendly and computer savvy volunteers!

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities

  • Help participants to login and connect their computers Introduce new participants to the rest of the group
  • Remind and reinforce ground rules
  • Create fun and interactive ways to engage participants in group activities, using social media
  • Encourage participants to help and learn from each other
  • Assist participants to set up email, Skype, Facebook, twitter accounts, as requested by participants
  • Take attendance
  • Participate in volunteer job related training workshops
  • Follow House policies and procedures, as well as Health and Safety Regulations

Skills Required

  • Must enjoy working with people
  • Must have an interest in issues faced by seniors and persons’ with disabilities
  • Must be friendly, reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating
  • Must demonstrate basic knowledge of utilizing computers and social media
  • Must be able to work in a group setting, independently and with minimum supervision
  • Speaks Portuguese is an asset

Orientation, Training and Benefits

  • Staff provides orientation and training before volunteer is placed in the program
  • On-going support provided by staff
  • On-going training workshop opportunities and get togethers provided throughout the year
  • Monthly volunteer meetings provide an opportunity to meet other volunteers, exchange ideas, attend training sessions and learn more about community resources and supports

Location: Facebook Live and Zoom.

Time Commitment

  • Monday at 2:30 pm
  • Volunteer Commitment 1 shift per week
  • Minimum 3 month commitment
