Health Promotion and Education
Health Promotion and Education programs provide educational and health related activities/services that promote health and wellness for older adults. Activities provide public education about seniors health and the aging process to caregivers, students and volunteers as well as providing self-care opportunities for seniors, caregivers and seniors’ volunteers.
Who is this program for?
- older Adults (55 years of age or over)
- caregiver and public education activities are open to participants who are below 55
- older adults residing in the West Neighbourhood House Older Adult Centre catchment area (Bloor Street to the lake, Roncesvalles Ave to Yonge Street)
What happens in this program:
- weekly workshops covering a variety of topics, including health and wellness seminars
- meetings and public forums about seniors issues
- Health Action Theatre by Seniors (a public education model for health promotion and community engagement)
- self-care and mutual support seniors and caregivers evening groups
- weekly arts studio and cooking groups
- monthly mobility community clinic (mobility assessments by CCAC/VHA OT)
Activities include:
- Health Promotion Tuesday 1:30-3pm workshop
- Tuesday evening self-help group
- Health Action Theatre by Seniors and special projects
- Seniors Arts Studio
- Occupational Therapy Clinic with VHA/CCAC
- Hearing Clinic with CHS
- Food security and cooking demonstrations
- Older Adult Centre Volunteer Training
