Do you have a passion for the arts? Do you love encouraging and supporting active seniors? We’d welcome a volunteer for just 3 hours every Thursday, from 11am to 1pm, to facilitate an online and/or in-person weekly art workshop in the Health Promotion Program – Seniors Community Development. Health Promotion offers a variety of activities designed to promote growth in a safe and welcoming environment that embraces the diversity of the community
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities
- Bring creativity and an open mind to help seniors plan projects
- Share different techniques and styles by hosting skilled workshops
- Facilitate weekly virtual and/or in person sessions to support ongoing artistic expression
- Assist older adult artists finding ways to express themselves through different art techniques
- Constant contact with staff regarding supplies and other group needs. Materials will be supplied by the program.
- Set-up, clean-up and take attendance at the day of the program
Skills Required
- Experience using art techniques
- Professional and respectful approach
- Must have an understanding of issues faced by older adults and persons’ with disabilities
- Must be reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating
- Must be comfortable facilitating on virtual platforms (Facebook room, Zoom, etc.) as well as in-person
- Must be able to work in a group setting, independently and/or with minimum supervision
- Portuguese speaking an asset
Orientation, Training and Benefits
- Staff provides orientation and training before volunteer is placed in the program
- On-going support provided by staff
- On-going training workshop opportunities and get-togethers provided throughout the year
- TTC tickets can be provided upon request
Program Time:
- Thursdays from 10:30 am to 13:30 pm
Volunteer Commitment
- One shift per week
- Minimum 3 months commitment
*A police check will need to be completed before beginning in this role (cost covered by the organization)
