Newcomer Youth Program – General Volunteer - West Neighbourhood House

Newcomer Youth Program is seeking a volunteer (18 years old and older) to support staff with weekly in-person programs and trips, content creation and connecting with newcomer youth. The program supports newcomers between 13-24 years of age and aims to create a safe and fun environment for youth to socialize, learn and ease into the settlement process.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Help staff with weekly afterschool program, trips and summer activities.
  • Help staff create fun content for youth to engage with online.
  • Connect with youth and foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment.

Skills Required:

  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening Check is mandatory upon starting
  • Strong knowledge of issues faced by newcomer youth.
  • Ability to assist in and plan programs.
  • Experience working with youth is an asset.
  • Ability to speak another language an asset.
  • Must have excellent English-speaking skills.
  • Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Must be able to commit for a 6-month period
  • Located at 248 Ossington Avenue or in the downtown west area of Toronto.

Orientation & Training:

  • Staff provide orientation when volunteer starts.
  • Staff provide on-going support
  • Pre-screening call to take place with the Newcomer Youth Program team prior to onboarding

Program Time:

  • Programs typically take place on weekdays from 4pm-7pm. Trips and special activities may take place on weekends.
  • Activities take place in-person at 248 Ossington Avenue and other areas around the city
