Newcomer Youth Program – Family Reunification Program (FRP) Volunteer - West Neighbourhood House

Newcomer Youth Program – Family Reunification Program is seeking a volunteer (18 years old and older) to assist in weekly content creation and program support. FRP aims to provide youth with information about mental health and other reunification issues faced by newcomers. The program promotes information sharing and support for newcomer youth who may have been separated from their families due to migration. The FRP program supports youth through virtual content and resource sharing and the FRP staff also runs cohorts and other programs both virtually and in-person to support youth.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening Check is mandatory upon starting
  • Help in creating weekly social media content for Instagram
  • Support the staff on family reunification and leadership workshop for youth.
  • Use of Zoom platform to connect to workshops.
  • Connect with youth to foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment.

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of issues faced by families and youth who have experienced many years of family separation.
  • Experience working with youth is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Tagalog is an asset.
  • Must have excellent social media content creation skills.
  • Must have experience using Canva for social media content.
  • Must have experience using Zoom as a platform for meetings.
  • Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have cross-cultural sensitivity.

Orientation & Training:

  • Staff provide orientation when volunteer starts
  • Staff provide on-going support
  • Pre-screening call to take place with the Newcomer Youth Program team prior to onboarding

Program Time:

  • Available weekdays once a week preferably on a Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and/or 4:30PM to 6:00PM
